Therapy Approaches

Therapy Approaches

If you have tried various therapy methods but your anxiety or depression is not shifting or has only reduced slightly - you are not alone and you have not failed. Sometimes there are echos of past trauma still present in your nervous system still sending protective signals that are not useful anymore. At the heart of my work is to heal the disconnection to self and others in order to get clarity and to understand your true needs and desires.

More information about my approaches is listed below:

Equine Assisted Therapy for Trauma

Equine Therapy adds an additional experience - a felt sense of your experience (not only through the logical brain) which makes it unique and sometimes more helpful than more traditional talking or somatic therapy methods.

Meeting and being with and around these beautiful creatures will help you to regulate your Nervous System (we call this resonance or co-regulation) - it gives your Nervous System a feeling that you can be safe. Some of my clients have never been around a horse and some have horses themselves - they all feel their calming presence which helps them to to recognise that the body feels safe now and you can be safe in your body. When you feel connection with the horses and yourself rather than thinking about connection it is easer to remember your forgotten strengths and to heal the ruptures with yourself .

The processing is a combination of many modalities I have studied including CRM (Comprehensive Resource Model), Brainspotting, Trauma Focused EMDR and other somatic approaches from the Compassionate Inquiry Model by Gabor Mate, Bessel van der Kolk, Dr Daniel Siegel, Psychedelic Models to generational and collective healing methods.

CRM – Comprehensive Resource Model

The Comprehensive Resource Model is an innovative trauma therapy that emphasises building personal resources and strengths rather than focusing on discussing trauma. CRM integrates neurobiology, reconnection to nature, and mindful practices, recognising that trauma is stored in your nervous system. By reconnecting with uplifting memories and using breathing techniques and body grids, CRM creates neural pathways that transform negative emotions, particularly effective for Complex PTSD, dissociative disorders, and attachment trauma. When combined with horses, it gains additional healing power.

EMDR Therapy – Innovative treatment for PTSD and trauma

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an internationally recognised therapy that was first developed in the 1987 by the American psychologist, Francine Shapiro. She observed that her eye movements, during a walk through a park, appeared to reduce negative emotions. It has since been used to treat a variety of mental health problems such as anxiety, fear, depression, anger, low self-esteem, grief, sleep problems, eating disorders and PTSD.

During sessions, you recall trauma while engaging in eye movements or tapping, helping both brain sides process the event.
